Thyroid-scintigraphy investigation process

For the thyroid scintigraphy you will receive a small amount of Tc-99m pertechnetate injected into an arm vein. The scintigraphy is performed 15 to 20 minutes after injection while you are in a seated position. The examination takes about 5 minutes. After the examination, the images are analysed on a computer. Since the thyroid scintigraphy represents the function of the thyroid tissue, and the ultrasound examination the structure of the thyroid gland, a comparison of these images is needed for an accurate diagnosis. Our doctors will explain the examination results to you, and you will receive copies of the images from us for referring colleagues.
