Renal-scintigraphy examination process

Prior to the investigation, you should drink about a litre of liquid. You will have a small amount of Tc-99m-MAG3injected into an arm vein for the renal scintigraphy. Immediately after this injection, the scintigram is performed while you are lying down. The test takes about 45 minutes. After the examination 2 blood samples have to be taken, and then you may go home. The blood samples are examined in a laboratory. Subsequently, interpretation of the examination is completed on a computer, with separate calculations of the kidney function for the different sides. Our doctors will explain the examination results to you in a follow-up appointment, and you will receive copies of the images from us for referring colleagues.
