Why is early detection so important?

Most patients are diagnosed after menopause, that is, between the age of 50 and 69 years. However, breast cancer can also affect younger women. Thirty percent of new cases of breast cancer occur between the ages of 40 and 50 years.

Survival rates for breast-cancer sufferers are constantly improving. Due to early recognition of the disease and many new treatments, more and more affected women are cured permanently.

Early diagnosis plays an important role in the fight against breast cancer. Although it does not protect against the development of breast cancer, regular screenings provide the possibility of breast-cancer detection at an early stage.

The earlier a malignant tumour is discovered, the better and more gently it can be treated. In most cases breast cancer can be cured completely if it is diagnosed early. Studies showed that women in whom a tumour was discovered at an early stage had a 98-percent survival rate of more than five years after surgery.
